The book centers on four children, each accompanied by poems that serve as bridges connecting photographs, landscapes, and the overarching theme of Earth as a nurturing mother.

The Beginning

Spring arrives, carrying the scent of summer. Seated on the soft moss of Snæfellsnes, I inhale deeply, filling my lungs with the pure, invigorating air of Iceland. As I gaze around, I notice the unique patterns etched in the lava and moss surrounding me.

Captivated by these diverse shapes, I decide to capture them on film. Upon returning home and reviewing the photographs, I discover a newfound appreciation for the life beneath my feet. A profound urge to share this hidden beauty, often overlooked underfoot, takes hold of me.

The images evoke a deep connection between Mother Nature and the maternal essence. They remind me of my own mother, my lineage, and my identity as a mother. The circular shape embodies eternity, continuity, and resilience, symbolizing soft lines and gentle forms akin to a mother’s embrace.

The Mother and Mother Earth

Interspersed among the photographs are individual poems, reflecting thoughts on the connection with each child and the earth. Initially, there was no intention to pair poems with visuals. However, as time passed, I felt an increasing need to strengthen the bond between mothers and Mother Earth, recognizing a profound analogy between them.

Thus, the poems emerged organically, born alongside the photographs, during the creative process.

Limited Edition

Each book is numbered like a work of art, making it a limited edition. The text is presented in both Icelandic and English, occasionally requiring the reader to turn the book in a circle, mirroring the eternal cycle and interconnectedness celebrated within.
